Victorian Earrings
Victorian Earrings Are Back!
The 1800’s were a fascinating time in a women’s history, but
one that most of us in the 21st century are grateful not to have to repeat.
Heavy hoop skirts, bustles, corsets and huge hats were all the rage. Some of
the Victorian jewelry of that era has survived, in particular, Victorian
earrings. Wear these gorgeous danglers and you will be immediately carried back
to a time of elegance and romance.
In the late 1800’s earrings were very large, dangled and hooped. Closer to the 1900’s
they were smaller and worn closer to a ladies’ ear. They were very popular with
the upper echelon and grand ladies. Just a slight inclination of her head could
send diamonds, crystals and glittering gems flying, nearly blinding her current
beau of the moment. They were typically made to hang from wires of yellow
antique gold, along with turquoise, garnets and pearls. Roman motifs were also
quite popular, having much to do with their interest in archaeology.
Many people still own these beautiful heirlooms and pass them down from one
generation to the next. Ladies of all ages find them fashionable and are
wearing them with anything and everything in their closets. Their unusual
designs and intricate patterns look charming for any occasion, with anything
from jeans to high fashion. Many of these earrings have been preserved and have
survived, but if you were not lucky enough to have them handed down to you,
there are beautiful reproductions that are available and cost much less.
They are a “must have” for anyone who appreciates these unique works of art,
and they are the perfect accessory for that special person in your life. She
will cherish them for many years to come, and will be forever enraptured by
them. Victorian earrings do not scream for attention, they simply earn it.
